About The Film Place
Background
The Film Place is a volunteer run community cinema that was launched
in 2005. It aims to give two film showings per week with a varied programme
of films covering mainstream and specialised films such as foreign language
films. We occasionally organise special events such as shorts nights,
talks before films by (for example) film directors or producers. To give
you some perspective on the popularity of the Film Place, it had already
given about 260 film showings to over 12,500 people in its first three
years of operation.
The Film Place is a venture managed jointly by The
Buckingham Centre for the Arts (a local organisation with
charity status) and the University
of Buckingham.
The original funding for the setting up the administrative organisation,
the projection / surround sound audio system equipment, and to
make improvements to the theatre was given by Buckingham Town Council,
Aylesbury Vale District Council, and the Buckingham and Gawcott Trust.
Since The Film Place started, we have gradually implemented improvements
which include black curtains surrounding the screen, tables and chairs
plus comfy settees in the foyer, coffee making facilities and much
more. However, we will continue to work on further enhancements to
make your visit to our cinema even more enjoyable.
The Film Place
is self financing although it still reliant on grants for enhancements
and from some financial help from Buckingham
Town Council who help with funds to show films aimed more specifically
at youth audiences and to keep childrens ticket costs low.

What type of films do we show?
We try to have a varied programme of films,
including recent "block
busters",
old and modern classics, short films, foreign films as well educational
films. We also organise special events including film premiers and inviting
film experts including film directors to give interesting and informative
talks. In short, we feel that we provide a programme of
films and events that should meet all tastes.
Volunteers
Our biggest asset is our pool of volunteers without whom The Film Place
would not continue to exist. We are constantly looking to recruit new
volunteers to help run each film showing. Each film showing needs a head
volunteer to coordinate the other volunteers who are needed for box office,
confectionery sales, ticket collection, and of course a projectionist.
They meet one hour before the film starts. We
want The Film Place to be a great social place to meet local people and
so we expect that all volunteers will have a good time and they will
be rewarded with free film tickets.
We have a pamphlet (in PDF format) which gives you more information
if you want to know more about what our volunteers do - right
click here to download it or left click to see it on-line. Please
use the contact
page to give us your details if you think you could help us in some
way. We would love to hear from you.
Friend of The Film Place
Maybe you have no time to help just at the moment. Another way to help
us is to become a "Friend of The Film Place". This is an easy
option if you are able to make a small donation to help us with the running
costs of providing this useful facility for people living or staying
in or near Buckingham. Please right
click here to download the Friend of The Film Place document
or left click to see it on-line which
provides you with more information and Gift Aid form which can substantially
increase your donation without you giving more.
Advertise at The Film Place
We offer very competitive rates advertising rates for adverts shown
just before the films. This is ideal for advertising local events or
businesses and the extra revenue from adverts helps us keep the cost
of seeing films low. Please contact
